Your subscriptions, your device

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 22 July 2026

SubOrbs is built to be private by default. There is no SubOrbs account, and there is no SubOrbs server that stores your data — your subscriptions live on your iPhone. This policy explains exactly what the app handles, and the one case where information leaves your device.

1Information the app handles

SubOrbs stores the following only on your device, using Apple's on-device storage:

• Subscription details you enter — name, amount, currency, billing cycle, renewal and cancellation dates, category, and notes.
• Profile details you optionally add — a display name, an optional birthday, a monthly budget, and account/profile names for organising subscriptions.
• Your Pro subscription status — whether you have an active SubOrbs Pro subscription, as reported by Apple.

SubOrbs does not collect your name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or any analytics or usage-tracking data. The app has no login and no user account.

2Snap & Read (the one time data leaves your device)

Snap & Read is an optional feature. When — and only when — you choose to scan a bill:

• The photo you capture or select is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our processing backend (hosted on Vercel), which forwards it to OpenAI's API to read the bill's details (such as the service name, amount, and billing period).
• Before sending, the image is downscaled and its embedded metadata (including any location/EXIF data) is removed.
• SubOrbs and its backend do not store, retain, log, or reuse the image after the request is processed. It is used only to return the extracted text back to your device.
• OpenAI processes the request to generate the result. Per OpenAI's API data-usage policy, content submitted through the API is not used to train its models.

3Data storage and iCloud

Your subscription and profile data is kept locally on your device. SubOrbs operates no server that stores this information, and it is not shared with us. The current version of SubOrbs does not sync your data to iCloud or any other cloud service; it remains on the device where you entered it.

4In-app purchases

SubOrbs Pro is an auto-renewable subscription processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment details. SubOrbs is only told whether an active entitlement exists, so it can unlock Pro features. Apple's payment and subscription handling is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

5Third-party services

• OpenAI — used only to read a bill you choose to scan with Snap & Read (see §2). OpenAI Privacy Policy.
• Vercel — hosts the backend function that forwards Snap & Read requests. It does not retain or analyse your data.
• Apple — provides the App Store, StoreKit purchases, and local notifications. Apple Privacy Policy.

We do not use advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or trackers of any kind.

6Your controls and rights

Because your data lives on your device, you remain in full control:

• Edit or delete any subscription or profile at any time inside the app.
• Use “Delete all data” in Settings to erase everything SubOrbs has stored.
• Deleting the app removes all of its local data from your device.
• Grant or revoke Camera, Photos, and Notifications permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.

Since SubOrbs holds no personal data on any server, there is no server-side account to export or delete. If you have a question about your rights under the GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws, contact us using the details below.

7Children's privacy

SubOrbs is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.

8Security

All network requests made by SubOrbs — scanning a bill and validating a purchase — occur over encrypted HTTPS connections. We never sell, rent, or trade your information with anyone.

9Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective date” above and post the updated policy at this address. Material changes will also be noted within the app.
